Lifting shots…. literately.
One of the things that we at Greenwoodvideo do, as most companies is to work hard to improve what we do. Better training. Better equipment. Different techniques. To change not for the sake of changing, but to meet demands in an ever developing world. Our latest equipment purchase is the crane. It’s not a huge crane that will frighten and intimidate our customers and their guests, it’s a small crane that performs like a giant.
As with most things in life, size doesn’t matter, it’s what you do with it that counts. You don’t need to move the crane very far to get a fantastic result. In the video below, we show how effective this tool is when filming a familiar scene.
Small things do matter and when you put something between the crane and the object you’re filming, magic happens…..
The Indian Wedding Edit
Sorry for not writing many post recently, but I have been so busy this last few weeks. Having just completed 4 different events at our local school (where my daughter goes), I am now editing my very first Asian wedding.
One of the things I love about the Asian weddings is the vivid colours! Fill any room with people wearing these kind of costumes and the whole room is isnstantly transformed.
After spending a couple of days editing I have done an amazing 4 and a half minutes of the Henna so far, but the first days are always the longest. Things may speed up a little from here on, until the actual wedding day where Janet did a home visit and came back with some amazing shots of the bride getting ready.

Millie show at Expressions

I’ll be heading to Expressions this morning to prepare the cameras for the show tonight. I’ve had an idea about setting up a camera to the roof to get a great shot of the stage over the heads of the audience.
Of course safety is a major issue here, I need to make sure that the camera isn’t going to fall onto someone on the tables below. I have a few ideas about attaching a safety cord so if the worst happened, at least it will not fall far.
I might also set a mic up in the rafters too directly in front of the stage in hope of a ricer sound from the dialogue. This may need a little experiment so I’ll film a little of the rehearsals to pick up the best positions.
Copies of the DVD will be available from expressions once completed. A great present for family and friends who couldn’t make it to the show. Just contact us for further details.
Julz – Hi Energy 2012 Pictures from Februaries show
Here are some pictures taken from behind the scenes at the Julz Hi Energy show in February. All pictures are taken from the video footage recorded on my Panasonic GH2 DSLR during the rehearsals, and can be seen on the DVD of the show.

Wedding Videographer website
I have been working on a new site over the last few days. Yesterday I sat from 8:30am until about 10pm on it, but today has been more relaxed. I have stopped to watch a little TV for a while. though I may get back on it later tonight if I start getting withdrawal :)
The site is for wedding videographers to educate people about their craft and to advertise their work. It’ll be a place for brides to come too to look through all the different style of wedding videographers from traditional to the new cinematic masterpieces.
There will be a forum to ask questions, as well as groups and brides can even talk directly with the videographers, save them as friends so they can watch what they are doing on the site (if anything) and read hundreds of articles on wedding videography.
The aim is, by the time they have left the site, they should know everything about having their wedding filmed and hopefully even have a videographer to do it for them. And the best thing of all, it’s all free!
More ionfo soon.
New Beginnings
I came up with a great idea! Yes I know what my great ideas are like! Well this one really is a great idea!
I have decided to make a website where brides and came and look for wedding videographers. They can have discussions with them, can see videos of their work, email them and go and visit their websites. It’s a site devoted to just wedding films in every style and budget.
I’ll give more information about it when its a little more complete, but I was working on it yesterday from 08.30am until about 1am the next day. I love getting my teeth into stuff like this
On Sunday we have a brand new Dance School to work for and the show is in the big Derby theatre! I’ve been there and it’s a lovely building. It’s always exciting to film in a new place and this is something we are looking forward too.
Of course there’s always a worry too about new places (that tends to add to the excitement and anticipation). Hopefully will be able to park outside OK, hopefully the lighting will be OK, hopefully the camera positions are OK etc, but we are very professional and will take it all in our stride.
Expressions College Move-it Promo
I’ve been very busy this last week working on the Expressions Promo video for Move-it 2012. This year it’s even more dynamic with more live sound than ever before. Also this year I have made the promo a little different than before. Instead of filming lessons as such as in the past, this time I invited the students into a studio to strut their stuff in front of the camera, just to see what comes out!
Lets just say, it’s very interesting! A little over half the dancers got onto the promo video with their routines. The promo is on its 4th version and is available for Maxine to see and edit. But this close to the show lets just hope its ready to go, because I am making a little something for the casting side of things too!
So working to a three day dead line, it’s all work and no play this week!
Monthly summary
What a busy month its been. I haven’t stopped editing all month. I have been editing dance shows, plays and preparing the dance academy footage for their Move-it promo Video next month. This weekend I have another dance show to film on Saturday in Ollerton, and on Sunday we will be visiting a couple for the 2nd meeting in preparation for an Asian wedding at the end of March beginning of April.
True story. A couple of days ago I had someone asking me if I can film their wedding next year, and can I beat a quote for £250? 20 years ago maybe, but need at least an extra digit on that price to film an all day wedding these days. My second videographer charges more than that!
I been duplicating DVDs and creating blurays for the DanceKraze dance show that took place in Nuneaton at the beginning of the month. Just packing up a box full of DVD box-sets now ready to post in the morning. It’s nice working on good dance shows like this, but also nice when It’s all completed and I can concentrate on the current projects.
I Heart Mansfield Video Competition 2012
A little film I made with my daughter to celebrate why she loves Mansfield as part of the I heart Mansfield film festival 2012! Watch out for Sammy the stag.
